Tell IL Gov Pritzker and the ICC to lift the natural gas ban, and make a plan for gradual transition to clean energy.
Call the Illinois Governor’s Office now at 312-814-2121.
Pausing critical repairs on our aging natural gas lines is dangerous for everyone. Converting to electric without a plan will cost homeowners tens of thousands of dollars.
When Illinois Governor Pritzker’s appointees on the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) shut down the natural gas line Safety Modernization Program in Chicago, it not only wiped out 1,000 jobs, but also subjected residents and business owners to the unnecessary danger of aged gas infrastructure that was no longer allowed to be replaced.

Local 150 wants to be part of the plan for a greener future. However, there are real costs and risks associated with decarbonizing without a plan. Â We need our Governor and the ICC to create a plan that is safe and affordable.
Fix Our Dangerous Gas Lines
We are raising awareness and informing Chicagoland residents about the political attacks on natural gas in Chicago and across Illinois, despite the fact that 80 percent of Illinoisans rely on natural gas to heat their homes. Illinois politicians need to create a plan for a gradual transition to clean energy that recognizes the reality of how homes are heated and powered today. Pausing critical repairs to our aging natural gas lines is dangerous for everyone.
Cost to Convert to All-Electric
Transitioning to electric without a plan will cost homeowners tens of thousands of dollars. To convert to electric could cost homeowners as much as $70,000. The cost of making Chicago homes all-electric would be between $50 billion and $60 billion and run an estimated $259 billion dollars to convert homes in Illinois.
We need to fix our deadly natural gas lines for our safety, tell IL Gov Pritzker: end the ban. Fight Back by phoning the Governor’s Office now at 312-814-2121.
Ongoing Costs
Once converted to electric, instead of saving, consumers would be hit with higher prices. The cost of an electric BTU is three times more than the cost of a BTU of natural gas.
Fight Back With Us
At this time, it makes no sense for Illinois to shut down the gas line safety program that prevents methane leaks and catastrophic accidents.
We are calling on Illinois and Chicago residents to fight back with us. Tell Illinois Governor Pritzker and the ICC to decarbonize the right way. Fix our dangerous gas lines first.
